Software Engineer at FedEX Corporation

Chinelo Okonkwo

FELLOW MEMBER

Chinelo has built a distinguished career in information technology and data engineering within a global enterprise environment, consistently delivering high-impact outcomes in operational efficiency, data modernization, and platform transformation. In her role within FedEx’s Oracle Retail, Customer, and Revenue Systems division, she supports multiple mission-critical back-office applications that require technical precision, strong data-governance discipline, and sustained cross-functional execution. Her work operates inside complex data ecosystems that directly enable large-scale enterprise operations.

As a Data Engineer, she has contributed to—and led—transformational modernization programs. She played a key role in Single Point of Sale modernization initiatives and in the strategic separation of Central Data Services (CDS), including the migration of shared database environments to a distributed database management system. This program migrated nine in-scope data domains and nearly one billion records from Oracle to DataStax, materially improving platform scalability, performance, and reliability while strengthening the enterprise’s ability to operate on modern, distributed data architectures. In parallel, she led initiatives such as Automated Imposition Enablement and the transition from PostScript-based workflows to JDF-based ticketing, delivering measurable automation gains across enterprise print production systems. These programs demanded rigorous engineering, careful change management, and coordination across engineering, operations, and leadership stakeholders.

Her performance and leadership have been formally recognized through four Purple Star Awards, two Bravo Zulu recognitions, and induction into the FedEx IT Hall of Fame—an uncommon distinction reserved for innovators who drive enterprise digital transformation. Chinelo has also received broader national and international media recognition as a leading Nigerian expert in data technology. The Guardian Nigeria (December 2023) featured her work in tailoring enterprise tools such as Planview Portfolios, building intuitive dashboards, integrating API-enabled workflows, and improving IT governance and operational performance. Vanguard Nigeria (March 2024) highlighted her professional journey from Nigeria to the United States, her Hall of Fame induction, and her role in large-scale data migration programs that advance secure, modern computing architectures. Together, these recognitions reflect sustained excellence, innovation, and ethical leadership in a highly performance-driven environment.

Beyond enterprise delivery, Chinelo maintains a strong record of professional leadership and service. She is a member of the Project Management Institute (PMI) and holds the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, reflecting structured capability in governance, delivery discipline, and global project execution. She is also actively affiliated with the Grace Hopper Celebration (GHC) and the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), reflecting a long-term commitment to advancing women in technology and engineering. Her professional influence extends into research and professional evaluation through service as a reviewer for Globee Awards and for works associated with GHC, SWE, and IEEE—contributing independent judgment toward the advancement of innovation quality, technical rigor, and professional excellence.

She also sustains community-facing service through volunteering and mentorship. Her contributions include participation in the GHC Mentoring Circle, engagement initiatives within the FedEx Multi-Leadership Community, and involvement with nonprofit and NGO efforts—reinforcing her belief that technical achievement should be paired with mentorship, advocacy, and inclusive leadership that expands opportunity for others.

As part of her continued growth trajectory, Chinelo has been admitted into a dual master’s program in Business Administration and Big Data Analytics at Bay Atlantic University. This next phase aligns with her strategic objective to integrate enterprise data architecture, analytics-driven decision-making, and executive leadership—strengthening her capacity to design scalable data systems, drive evidence-based innovation, and contribute to sustainable, technology-enabled community development initiatives.

In summary, Chinelo’s justification for IICSPA Fellow membership is grounded in demonstrated technical depth, measurable enterprise impact, recognized professional excellence, independent service and review leadership, and a sustained commitment to mentorship and inclusive professional development. Her record reflects the standards expected of the highest grade of membership—reserved for the most selective, top-tier contributors—and positions her to advance IICSPA’s mission, credibility, and professional community through continued leadership, integrity, and innovation.
