With a career spanning over 17 years in software engineering, cloud infrastructure, networking systems, and organizational leadership, Sathyanarayanan Sayiram has been at the helm of high-impact initiatives for some of the world’s largest technology companies — IBM, Cisco, Brocade, and Nortel. His portfolio blends hands-on technical mastery with strategic leadership, delivering innovations that power mission-critical systems at global scale.

At IBM, where he now serves as Senior Manager – Software Engineering, Sayiram has led groundbreaking initiatives in Software Defined Networking (SDN) and cloud infrastructure. He delivered GPU-as-a-Service for AI/ML workloads across eight global regions in just three months, rolled out the SDN stack to 12 production regions, and spearheaded QA transformations that cut production issues by 40% while improving overall quality by 90%.

During his six-year tenure at Cisco, he oversaw engineering for IOS-XR software on next-generation core routers, including the Cisco 8000 and NCS series. His leadership in developing simulation environments, code quality frameworks, and system-level testing not only improved product reliability but also reduced customer hardware dependency by 90% — a leap forward in efficiency and customer satisfaction.

Sayiram’s contributions have earned industry recognition, including multiple IBM Outstanding Technical Achievement Awards for innovations such as zero-packet-loss networking across VPC, transit gateway scalability, and Pensando DPU enablement, as well as the Cisco Pioneer Award for delivering the Cisco 8000 platform.

His influence extends beyond engineering delivery. As a peer reviewer for IEEE conferences — including the IEEE Symposium on Product Compliance, ICCCE, and ISACC — and as an IEEE author, he has contributed research on intelligent systems, performance evaluation, and modern cloud technologies. He is also a Fellow of IETE and SCRS, with IEEE Senior Membership in progress.
